This Changed!

He was so proud of his wife!
I saw it, heard it in his voice.
Once I could plainly hear him.
Then it is as if he’s gone silent.

Husband and relative to me.
I would have chosen not to mutter
A single word, sake but to smile.
To have you return that smile.
Not to say a word about my son.

Yet the concern should not be for him.
But for the beings that came before him.
Have a little compassion my dear,
For the sons you already brought here.
Expect, I asked, who had empathy for me?
